AVORA Stone Side Table

There's a gap beside every chair where a cup should go. This fills it with something worth looking at — a small black drum in cut steel that works as a table, a stool, or a stand for the plant that never had a home.

In everyday use

It arrives in one piece and needs nothing done to it. At 12.5 inches across and 18 tall it slots between two chairs, at the end of a bench, or on its own by a door, and the 9.75-inch top holds a cup, a book and a phone without crowding. Take the weight off it and it's a stool. The surface wipes clean, and footpads on the base mean it can be moved across a patio or a floorboard without marking either. It works inside as well as out, which is what makes it easy to move on when a room changes.

What sets it apart

Cut steel mid-band
A lattice of quatrefoil cutouts is punched through the widest part of the drum, so the piece throws pattern in low sun instead of a solid shadow.

Hollow drum form
The body curves out to a waist and back in, in one continuous steel shell, top and base solid.

One piece, no assembly
There is nothing to bolt, level or tighten. It works from the moment you put it down.

Footpads on the base
Pads on the underside keep the steel edge off the floor when you slide it into place.

Why we chose it

Small tables usually pick a side: a plain cylinder that disappears, or a decorative piece you have to design a corner around. We chose this one because the cutting is doing the work. The lattice sits only through the belly of the drum, with plain steel above and below it, so the pattern reads as a band rather than an all-over motif — quiet enough to sit next to a plain chair and interesting enough to stand alone by a door. The flat matte black keeps it recessive in the daylight and turns it into a silhouette in the evening. It weighs little, needs nothing, and moves indoors without looking like garden furniture that wandered in.
