AVORA Side Table

The umbrella has to stand somewhere, and the drinks have to go somewhere, and until now those were two objects taking up two pieces of the patio. This is both — a woven side table with a pole through the middle of it and a hollow base wide enough to hide the weight that holds it steady.

In everyday use

Set it between two chairs and it's a side table: a 17-inch woven top at armrest height for a glass and a book, with an open shelf underneath for the things that would otherwise end up on the floor. Drop an umbrella pole through the center hole and it becomes the stand as well. The base is flared and hollow, sized to sit over a weight base smaller than 18.9 inches square, so the ballast is inside the table instead of parked on the ground beside it. When you're not using the umbrella, a rubber cap plugs the hole and the top goes back to being a top.

A base that hides the ballast
The flared lower body is hollow, with 13.6 to 19.3 inches of clearance inside — room for an umbrella weight base to sit out of sight.

Center hole for a pole
A Φ1.6" / Φ40 mm hole runs through the top and the shelf, sized for a pole up to 1.5 inches across.

Open shelf underneath
The full-width shelf below the top holds towels, a book, or whatever comes outside with you.

Hand-woven PE rattan
The whole body is woven by hand in mixed gray flat rattan, 1.2 mm strand, over a powder-coated metal frame.

Armrest height
At 21.75 inches tall it lines up with the arm of a lounge chair, so you're not reaching down for a glass.

Why we chose it

Most umbrella stands are a heavy disc you step around for the rest of the season. We chose this one because it makes the stand disappear into a piece of furniture you'd want anyway — the weight goes inside the base, the pole goes through the middle, and what you see is a woven table with a shelf. The hourglass shape is doing structural work, not decorative work: it flares out exactly where it needs a wide footprint and pulls back in where you want knee room. Without the umbrella it still earns its place beside a chair, which is what separates a side table from an accessory.
