AVORA Nomad Solar Backpack
Two days out and the phone is the thing you start rationing. This is a daypack that spends the walk doing something about it — the panel on the front faces the sky while you're moving, so the sun does the work you'd otherwise be carrying a battery for.
In everyday use
It carries like a normal daypack, because that's what it is underneath: one main compartment, a separate zipped front pocket, mesh on both sides for a bottle, and compression straps to pull the load in when it's half empty. The back panel is padded and channelled, which matters on a warm climb. The panel itself unclips from the front — so you can leave it on the pack while you walk, or take it off and lay it in the sun at camp while the bag stays in the shade. Reflective tape on the straps and the base does the quiet job of making you visible on a road walk at dusk.

A panel that comes off
The solar panel is a separate zip-edged unit rather than a sewn-in face, so it can charge on the pack or off it.
Charging lead built in
A lead runs from the panel into the pack, so a phone charges in the front pocket rather than in your hand.
Compression on both sides
Four side-release straps pull a part-loaded pack tight instead of letting it swing.
Ventilated back and straps
Padded, channelled back panel with mesh, and mesh-backed shoulder straps.
Ripstop polyester
A fine diamond ripstop grid runs through the whole shell.
Reflective detailing
Tape on the strap fronts and the lower webbing tabs.
Why we chose it
Most solar packs make you choose: a good bag with a bad panel bolted to it, or a good panel attached to something you wouldn't otherwise carry. We chose this one because the bag stands up on its own — proper compression, a ventilated back, real side pockets — and because the panel detaches, which is the difference between a feature and a fixture. Take it off at camp and it's a panel; leave it on and it's a daypack that happens to be charging.
