The seat pad is 47.2 inches by 30.3, cut to the footprint of a standard pallet, with a matching 15.7-inch back. Both are 3.9 inches thick, so you sit on the cushion rather than through it onto the slats. The cover is 180 gsm polyester and sheds a light shower rather than drinking it. The dark gray does the quiet work: on weathered decking it recedes, and against pale timber it gives the seat an outline. It reads as upholstery indoors too — a window seat, a low platform, a bench in a hall.

Why we chose it

The pallet sofa either works completely or not at all, and the cushions decide which. Thin ones promise softness and don't deliver it; the wrong size leaves a strip of bare wood down one edge. We chose this pair because it's cut to the real dimensions of a pallet and because 3.9 inches is genuinely enough depth. In dark gray it also solves the problem nobody mentions when they sell outdoor cushions, which is what they look like in September.
