The seat pad is 47.2 inches by 30.3, sized to the footprint of a standard pallet, and the back runs the same length at 15.7 inches high. Both are 3.9 inches thick, which is deep enough that you sit on the cushion rather than through it onto the boards underneath. The cover is 180 gsm polyester, so a rain shower or a spilled drink beads and wipes rather than soaking straight in. They work indoors too — on a window seat, a low platform bed, a bench in a hallway — and nothing about them looks like patio furniture that wandered inside.

Why we chose it

The pallet sofa is one of those ideas that works completely or not at all, and the difference is entirely the cushions. Thin ones make a hard seat look soft and then disappoint you; the wrong size leaves a strip of bare wood down one edge. We chose this pair because it's cut to the actual dimensions of a pallet and because 3.9 inches is genuinely enough depth. Two pieces, one afternoon, and a stack of timber becomes somewhere to sit for the rest of the summer.
