In everyday use

The shell is woven cotton rope, and inside it sits one large cushion that carries the back, both arms and the seat in a single piece — so there's nothing to rearrange each time you get up. It hangs from four ropes to a single point, which means it swings and rotates rather than just rocking. Seat is 31.5 by 23.6 inches; from the hook to the bottom of the chair is 43.3 inches, so you need a little over five feet of clear height to hang it comfortably. Tassels run the whole way round the base. It arrives ready to hang: clip the spring hook on, adjust the chain, sit down.

Please note: the chair comes with its spring clip and chain only. A stand, a ceiling mount or a beam fixing is needed to hang it, and none of those are included.

Why we chose it

Hanging chairs tend to be either a rope sling with a cushion balanced in it or a rigid egg you can't get comfortable in. This sits between the two: a woven shell that holds its shape, and one generous cushion that does all the work. We chose it for the single-piece cushion in particular — it's the difference between a chair you drop into and one you have to set up first. The gray blend and the tassels keep it quiet enough to live indoors through the winter, which is where most of these end up anyway.
