AVORA Ember Fire Pit

The evening cools, someone puts another log on, and nobody moves. A fire is the reason people stay outside an hour longer than they meant to — and this one is built so that the hour isn't spent shuffling chairs away from the smoke.

In everyday use

It sits flat on the patio, 20.5 inches across and just over knee height, close enough between two chairs to warm both. There's nothing to assemble: unbox it, set the mat down, set it on top, light it. The fuel space takes 13.25 inches of wood, so it burns real logs rather than kindling. Two black hoops and a molded woodgrain shell give it the look of a barrel, which is why it reads as part of the furniture during the day and not as equipment waiting to be put away.

What sets it apart

Double combustion
Air drawn in at the base is heated as it rises between the walls, then fed back through the ring of holes near the top — a second burn above the fire rather than only under it.

Vents you can see working
The slotted stainless collar and the inner ring of holes are the whole mechanism, visible on the top face. Nothing to adjust and nothing to service.

Magnesium oxide shell
The body is molded magnesium oxide with steel banding, textured to read as a coopered barrel.

Stainless combustor
The working part — collar, dome and inner bowl — is stainless steel, set into the shell.

A mat in the box
A 22-inch aluminum foil mat comes with it, sized to sit under the base ring on a deck or patio.

No assembly
It arrives as one piece. There is nothing to bolt together and nothing to lose.

Why we chose it

Most fire pits ask you to choose between the look and the burn. The steel bowls perform and look like equipment; the decorative ones look right and smoke you out of your own garden. We chose this one because the double-combustion design is doing the work while the barrel shell does the looking, and because at 20.5 inches across it's the size that suits a patio rather than a field. It arrives in one piece, which matters more than it sounds — a fire pit you can use the evening it turns up is a fire pit you'll use all season.
