Tap water tastes like the tap it came from. Fill this at the campsite standpipe, the trailhead, the office kitchen, and what you drink tastes like water instead.

In everyday use

Thirty-six ounces is a long walk's worth, or a working day's, so you fill it once rather than four times. The mouth is wide enough to take a tap at full flow or a stream of water poured from a jug, and the carbon cartridge does its work as you drink — chlorine, sediment, the flat mineral taste that comes off old pipework. It draws a little harder than a plain bottle, which is the honest trade for filtering on the way through. The lid locks shut for a pack or a gym bag, the handle folds against the side to hang off a strap, and everything but the filter goes in the dishwasher. Fill it from water you would already drink: this is a carbon filter for taste and clarity, not a backcountry purifier, and it makes no claim on bacteria or viruses.

What sets it apart

Carbon cartridge with a 5 micron element
Activated carbon fiber reduces chlorine, odor, microplastics, turbidity and sand as the water passes, which is most of what makes tap water taste like something.

Tested, with the report number
SGS testing recorded better than 99% chlorine removal under report NBF25-0003761-02/04, and the Tritan body passed the Bisphenol A requirement under report SHAAF25000859408/09/10.

A second filter in the box
Each cartridge handles 132 gal (500 L) and lasts four to six months, and the spare takes that to 264 gal (1000 L) before you buy anything.

A dial that remembers for you
Turn the marking ring to the month you fit the filter, and the bottle tells you how far through its life it is without you having to keep a note.

Locking lid, detachable everything
The lid clicks shut and stays shut in a pack, and the nozzle and straw both pull off for cleaning or replacing.

36 oz that fills anywhere
The wide mouth takes a full-flow tap without splashing back, so refilling is a ten-second job rather than a careful one.

Everything but the filter is dishwasher safe
The Tritan body, the lid and the straw go in with the rest of the load; only the cartridge stays out.

Why we chose it

Most people carry a bottle and quietly put up with what comes out of it. We liked this one because it fixes that at the point of use rather than asking you to plan ahead — no jug in the fridge, no cases of plastic in the trunk, just the bottle you were carrying anyway doing a little more. The spare filter matters more than it sounds: it means the bottle works for the better part of a year out of the box, and the dial on the cartridge means you'll actually know when to change it. It's a straightforward piece of equipment that makes ordinary water better, on the trail and at the desk.
