Avora Spirit Camp Stove
AVORA Spirit Camp Stove
Coffee, an hour after sunrise, somewhere you had to walk to. This is the whole kitchen for that: a brass burner and an aluminum stand that together weigh 131 grams and travel in a bag the size of your fist.
In everyday use
Set the stand down, drop the burner into it, fill, light. The arms of the stand are the pot support and the windbreak at the same time, so there's nothing else to assemble and nothing to lose in the grass. Cover the burner part-way to bring the flame down for a simmer, or drop the cover fully to put it out. Sitting the burner higher or lower in the stand gives you two working flame heights. There are no valves, no cartridge to run out mid-pour, and nothing to service — which is the argument for a spirit stove and always has been.
What sets it apart
Brass burner, aluminum stand
The burner is brass and the stand is aluminum alloy. There is no plastic anywhere on it.
The stand is the windshield
Four cut-out arms with serrated tops hold the pot and block the wind, so the flame stays where you put it without a separate screen.
Cover for simmer and out
A hinged cover on a folding wire handle rotates over the burner to lower the flame, and closes it to put it out.
Sealed for carrying
A rubber seal in the burner keeps fuel from leaking or evaporating between uses.
Two flame heights
Repositioning the burner in the stand changes the working height, giving you a high flame and a low one.
131 grams, and a bag
The stove weighs 131 g (4.62 oz) and packs into the drawstring bag it comes with, 10.5 cm square.
Why we chose it
Most small stoves are small until you add the fuel canister, the wind screen and the separate pot stand. We chose this one because it is genuinely finished at 131 grams: burner, support and windshield are two objects that nest, and the cover handles both simmering and putting it out. The brass matters more than it looks — it's the part that takes the heat, and it's the part that will still be working in ten years, because there is nothing on it to fail. It runs on alcohol or solid fuel tablets, both of which you can buy anywhere, which is what makes it worth putting in a bag for a week you haven't planned yet.
