Avora Solstice Umbrella
AVORA Solstice Umbrella
Eight people, one table, and a sun that keeps moving. This is the umbrella that covers the whole gathering rather than the middle of it — 71 square feet of shade in the afternoon, and 32 small lights in the same canopy once the plates are cleared.
In everyday use
Set the pole in a base, turn the crank, and the canopy opens to 9.2 feet across at 8.2 feet of clearance — enough for a table and four to eight chairs with nobody ducking. The button on the pole tilts the whole canopy, so you follow the sun without moving the furniture. The panel on the crown charges through the day and a switch on the pole brings the lights up at night: four LEDs running down each of the eight ribs, six to eight hours from a full charge. It furls into a slim column with a tie band when you're done. It needs a base of 100 lbs or more, bought separately.
What sets it apart
Three-tier vented canopy
The canopy is built as three overlapping tops with an opening between each, rather than one flat sheet.
32 solar LEDs
Four lights per rib, thirty-two in all, run off a panel at the crown and switch on from the pole.
Crank open, button tilt
The crank raises and lowers the canopy; a push button angles it, so shade follows the sun from where you're sitting.
Eight ribs across 71.3 sq. ft.
Eight ribs carry a 9.2-foot canopy — coverage for a full table rather than the two seats nearest the pole.
180 g polyester canopy
The canopy is a 180 g non-fluorinated polyester, rated UPF 50+.
Iron pole and crank
The pole is iron with an anti-scratch and anti-rust coating; the crank is iron.
Why we chose it
A big umbrella is really a small building, and most of them are sold on canopy width alone. We chose this one for the crown. Three stacked tiers with openings between them give the umbrella a silhouette from a distance and change what happens underneath it — the shade has a shape rather than a flat ceiling. The lights matter for the same reason the shade does: they extend how long the table stays useful. Four points on each rib is a low, scattered light, closer to a string of bulbs than a lamp, and it comes on with a switch rather than a cable. Choose the base carefully — at this size the manufacturer asks for 100 lbs or more, and that is not the place to economize.
