Avora Solstice Patio Umbrella
AVORA Solstice Patio Umbrella
Lunch runs long. The sun moves round, someone shifts their chair, and eventually the table gives up and everyone goes inside. This is the piece that keeps the table where it is — shade you can angle through the afternoon, and light in the same canopy once the afternoon is over.
In everyday use
Slide the pole into a base, turn the crank, and the canopy opens over the table at 8.8 by 6.7 feet — a rectangle rather than a circle, so it covers a rectangular table corner to corner. As the sun drops, press the button on the pole and the whole canopy tilts to meet it. The solar panel on the crown charges through the day and the LED strips along all eight ribs run for up to four hours after dark, switched from a rocker on the pole. It comes apart for storage, and the manufacturer asks that you close it in heavy rain.
What sets it apart
Rectangular canopy
At 8.8 by 6.7 feet the shade is shaped like the table under it, rather than leaving two corners out in the sun.
Crank open, button tilt
The crank raises and lowers the canopy; a push button tilts it, so you follow the sun from your seat instead of moving the base.
Solar LEDs along every rib
A 0.8 W panel on the crown charges a 1600 mAh pack through the day and lights the underside of all eight ribs for up to four hours at night.
Eight ribs
Eight ribs carry the canopy rather than the usual six, spreading the load across a wider rectangle.
Vented crown
A vent sits at the top of the canopy.
Comes apart
The structure detaches, so it stores in a smaller space than it occupies open.
Why we chose it
An umbrella is bought for one afternoon and judged on all the others. We chose this one for two decisions the supplier got right. The canopy is rectangular, which sounds like a detail until you watch a round umbrella leave half a table in the sun. And the light is built into the shade rather than added underneath it — no string lights to hang, no lantern to carry out, nothing to plug in. The wine red is a deliberate note against a gray table and a green garden; it reads as chosen. The base is bought separately, which is worth knowing before it arrives.
