Avora Ironwood Smoker Grill
AVORA Ironwood Smoker Grill
Some food wants an afternoon, not fifteen minutes. You get the coals going, close the lid, and go back to the table — and three hours later everyone comes over because of what the garden smells like. This is the cooker for that kind of afternoon.
In everyday use
It stands upright, 15.7 inches across and just under three feet tall, so it takes a corner of the patio rather than the middle of it. The fire sits at the bottom and the heat rises through the tiers, which means the fat from whatever you're cooking drops into the pan below instead of onto the coals — no flare-ups, and no standing over it turning skewers. Two doors let you feed the fire and look at the food without lifting the lid. The thermometer on the lid tells you whether to open the vent or leave it alone. Most of the work is waiting.
What sets it apart
Four ways to cook on it
Run it as an open brazier, as a single-layer barbecue, as a single-layer smoker, or stacked with both tiers smoking at once.
Vertical fire
The charcoal sits below the food rather than beside it, so drippings fall into the bottom pan rather than back into the fire.
Doors on both tiers
Each body section has its own hinged, latched door — charcoal goes in and food gets checked without breaking the seal at the top.
Vent and thermometer on the lid
A wheel vent and a face-mounted gauge sit side by side, so adjusting the fire and reading the result is one movement.
Two grates, two pans
It comes apart into six pieces — lid, two body sections, two cooking grates and two pans — which is what makes the different configurations possible.
Enameled finish
Supplier-described as resistant to high temperature and easy to clean.
Why we chose it
Most charcoal cookers make you pick a lane: a kettle that grills fast, or a smoker that does long cooks and nothing else. We chose this one because it does both by rearranging itself, and because it does it without any clever mechanism — you stack it differently, and that's the whole trick. At 33 inches tall and under twelve pounds, it also stores in the space a folding chair takes, which matters for anyone who cooks outside a dozen weekends a year rather than every night.
