Cooking away from home usually means one table, and everything that won't fit on it living on the ground. This unfolds into nearly six feet of kitchen — two work heights, four shelves, three fold-out wings and somewhere to hang the light — and folds back into a bag when you're done.

In everyday use

Set it against the side of the van and you get a working line rather than a surface. The left bench sits at 31.5 inches with two shelves under it for the boxes and the crate; the right drops to 29.9, which is the comfortable height for a stove. Three perforated side shelves flip out along its length when you need somewhere to put a chopping board down, and fold flat when you're walking past. Four hooks take the utensils. The lamp stand telescopes from 27.5 to 47.2 inches, so the light goes above the food rather than behind your head. It packs into the bag it came in at 34.3 by 20.9 by 6.7 inches.

Why we chose it

Camp kitchens tend to fail in one of two ways: they're a table with a name, or they're a cabinet-sized thing nobody unpacks twice. This gets the middle right. Two fixed heights instead of one is the decision that makes it a kitchen — you stop shuffling the stove and the board around the same 30 inches of surface. The rest follows: shelves under both benches, wings that come out sideways rather than lengthways, and a light stand tall enough to be useful after dark. It packs to under seven inches deep, which is why it comes back out on the second trip.
