AVORA Ember Tent Stove

A fire you can see, inside, in October. The kettle goes on the top plate, wet socks go over the side rack, and the tent that was cold when you arrived is warm by the time the light goes.

In everyday use

It packs down to a box 18 inches long — the chimney sections stow inside the firebox, so there's one thing to carry rather than five. Set up, the legs fold out, the five pipe sections stack, and one of them adjusts so the run can be matched to the height of your tent. The flat top is a cooking surface with a lift-out plate in the middle, and the two stainless racks swing out either side, 14 by 6 inches each, for pans, mugs or drying gloves. The door has a glass window, so you can read the fire without opening it, and a damper dial underneath for the air. Ash lifts out on its own tray.

What sets it apart

Chimney stows inside
Five sections, one adjustable, all packed into the firebox for transport. Nothing loose in the car.

A window in the door
You can see the fire's state without opening up and losing the heat.

Two racks and a hotplate
14 × 6 in of stainless on each side, plus a flat steel top with a 5.5-inch removable plate over the fire.

Airflow at both ends
A damper on the door and an adjustable chimney — the fire responds to what you set rather than to what the weather is doing.

Ash tray that comes out
The tray lifts clear for emptying, so cleaning out is a thirty-second job rather than a mess.

22 lbs, folded to 18 × 11 × 10.5 in
One-person carry, and a shape that stacks in a truck bed with everything else.

Why we chose it

Hot tenting turns three seasons into four, and the whole thing depends on the stove being something you'll actually bring. Twenty-two pounds and a box the size of a toolbox is where that line sits. What decided it for us was the top: a flat steel plate with a lift-out ring and two cantilevered racks means the stove earns its weight twice — it heats the tent and it cooks the meal, so you don't also carry a burner. The window is the other thing. Being able to read a fire without opening the door is the difference between a stove that runs all evening and one you fight with.

Before you order: it arrives flat and needs assembling, and no stove jack, flashing or spark arrestor is included. Check what your tent needs at the flue, and fit it properly — that part is not optional.
