AVORA Chill Table

Fill it with ice in the afternoon and the drinks look after themselves. Everyone finds it without being told, nobody opens a cooler on the floor, and the bottles stay cold until the light goes.

In everyday use

The whole top is the basin — 40.6 inches of it, three inches deep, with a lip all the way round. That's enough for bottles, cans and the ice to bury them in, laid out where people can see what they're reaching for. When the ice melts you pull the plug and the telescoping hose sends the water into a bucket rather than over your feet. Underneath, a wire shelf holds the spares and the things you haven't opened yet. Afterwards the legs fold flat and it goes away as a 4.8 inch tray with a handle on the back.

Why we chose it

Coolers are a compromise everybody has quietly agreed to live with: they sit on the ground, they're dark inside, and someone has to crouch and rummage. This turns the whole thing the right way up. Everything is visible, everything is at waist height, and the melt has somewhere to go that isn't the lawn. It's the piece that makes an afternoon feel organised without anyone doing any organising — and in tan, on those slim grey legs, it looks like furniture rather than equipment, which matters when it's out for six hours.
